Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace

In 1983, the Standing Committee on Refugees was established with the aim of drawing attention to the problems faced by displaced populations and participating in aid campaigns. The members of the committee soon realized that these activities only provided temporary relief; for a sustainable solution, the root causes of the problem—namely violence, conflicts, and human rights violations—had to be addressed. In 1995, the committee changed its name to the Standing Committee on Refugees and Peace, and finally, in 2005, it adopted the name we know today: SCORP — the Standing Committee on Human Rights & Peace.
