Leukemia is a serious health issue, particularly widespread among children. If not detected early, leukemia can pose a life-threatening risk. In Azerbaijan, there are nearly 2,500 patients battling this disease, with over 300 of them being children. Genetic factors, stress, environmental pollution, and exposure to chemicals play significant roles among the main causes of leukemia. Early detection of the disease significantly increases the chances of successful treatment. Therefore, it is crucial to raise awareness among the public, healthcare workers, and students about early diagnosis and treatment processes.
Objectives and Activities of the Project
In collaboration with the Leukemia Public Union, a training session titled "Overview of Leukemia" was organized. The primary goal of this training was to emphasize the treatability of leukemia and to highlight the importance of early diagnosis to the public. Dr. Tural Paşayev, a graduate of Azerbaijan Medical University, specializing in Hematology at Ege University and currently working at Liv Bona Dea Hospital, was invited as the speaker.
Topics Discussed During the Training
Dr. Tural Paşayev provided in-depth information about the symptoms, diagnostic process, and treatment methods of leukemia. During the training, extensive discussions were held with the students regarding the topic. Special emphasis was placed on the critical role of early detection in treatment success.
Importance of Fighting Leukemia
Early diagnosis of leukemia is a key factor in the success of treatment. The survival rate for children can reach up to 85%. This training not only informed medical students but also helped increase the community's sensitivity to this disease. The fact that leukemia can occur in both children and adults, and that there are chances of recovery with appropriate treatment, further highlighted the importance of the session.
